Fighting off the Mom-Cold while Breastfeeding

Getting a cold is miserable. Getting a cold while still trying to take care of your baby is miserable. But getting a cold while caring for a child and breastfeeding- beyond miserable.

Normally when I get a cold I take beyond the recommended dose of Emergen-C and Zinc. Recommended? No. Honest? Yes. I also take every form of cold medication available to me. But when your pregnant toe breastfeeding, you basically get stuck with nursing yourself back to being able to breathe out of both sides of your nose with only hopes and dreams. So how do you survive a cold while nursing or just in general? Here are some times from a freshly stuffed-up Momma!

Infused Water

For years I have sworn by infused water to de-bloat, boost immunity, and just help me drink more because it taste good! Whenever I feel the first tickle in my throat I grab an orange, lemon, some ginger root, and my infused bottle. I aim to drink as much as I can throughout the day. The extra h2o and the both of citrus and ginger helps diminish my symptoms faster than any other home remedy I have tried.

Apple Cider and Cinnamon Tonic Shots

Raw Honey, Apple Cider Vinegar, Lemon Juice, and Cinnamon mix together to make a powerful shot of immunity and antioxidants. You can take it anywhere from 2-5 times a day. Heat it up to dissolve the honey and it not only soothe a sore throat, but it also either gets rid of my symptoms completely or drastically shortens the length of my cold.

Oilogic Stuffy Nose & Cough Oil Roller

I originally bought this for August when he was struggling with congestion, but I borrow it from time to time. Whenever I struggle with colds or allergies a little dab of this behind my ears helps to open up my sinuses and decongest me.

Rest

It’s hard as a momma to get time to rest, but especially when working to fight off a sickness we need to rest. Nap when baby does. Hand the little one off and take a nap. Make your wellness a priority.

What helps you when your feeling under the weather?
