Drug Store Beauty Haul

I like makeup as much as the next girl, but my guilty pleasure is skin products. A good scrub, eye cream, or mask can completely change the course if my day. But with a new little one sucking up all our cash (he really did need that tether and sunnies-I swear) and doctor, dentist, and vet bills rolling in I new it was time to cut back on some of the products I have been using. My goals was to find drug store replacements that would be a fraction of the cost but still have ingredients that I felt good about putting on my skin.

Here was my criteria:

Salicylic Acid to keep breakouts at bay.

Must be all natural or pretty darn close.

No animal testing and vegan friendly, preferably.

Must have SPF.

Some form of firming/eye cream to give the appearance that I actually do sleep.

So off I went with a low budget and high hopes!

The first products to draw my eye was the Burt’s Bees skincare line. I love Burt’s Bees and I trust their brand so I was excited to see so many options in their skincare line. The majority of my haul came from Burt’s Bees and I ain’t even mad about it.

I actually purchased two cleansers, a hell cleanser for day an exfoliating scrub for night.

Burt’s Bees Acne Solutions Gell Cleanser- $8.97 from Walmart

This gel cleanser has 1.0% Salicylic Acid derived from Willow Bark. It is 99.9% natural, features vegetarian ingredients, and has not been tested on animals. It has calming ingredients such as Evening Primrose to help soothe the skin and reduce redness. It is marketed for oily skin, but I feel it is fine for combination skin as long as you follow with a moisturizer. It has a very, very light floral scent. I noticed a difference right away in the tone of my skin and haven’t had a single blemish since I started using it in my regimen.

Burt’s Bees Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub- $8.52 from Walmart

I use this exfoliating scrub at night and love it! It is super rich and creamy making it feel like a high-end cleanser. It also is vegetarian, not tested on animals and 99.9% natural. It has the same 1.0% Salicylic Acid which keeps your skin balanced from day to night. Also designed for oily skin, this scrub is so nourishing that any skin type could comfortably use it. Though it initially felt that there weren’t enough exfoliating Jojoba Oil Beads the scrub also uses Citric Acid to slough away dead skin cells- a winner for sure!

Alba Botanica’s Acnedote Deep Clean Astringent- $6.68 from Walmart

With 2% Salicylic Acid and Willow Bark Extract this clears away zits and fades old scarring. Vegetarian and cruelty free and it is free of synthetic fragrances., sulfates, and parabens it checks off most of my boxes. I apply this with a cotton ball morning and night to keep an even and blemish free face. It stings just a tad when first applied but it quickly fades.

Burt’s Bees Renewal Firming Day Lotion- $14.96 from Walmart

I can not say how much I love this lotion. With my fair-skin and living in a tropical climate it is so important to have SPF in my skincare products, but I hate how it is always either oily or pastey. This lotion has a lush texture that doesn’t feel like a trip to the beach, yet it contains SPF 30. It didn’t smell like sunscreen either! It has a floral smell with a hint of apples, it took me a while to get used to but it didn’t bother me at all now and it is still much preferred to the chemical sunscreen smell. Apple and White Hibiscus lock in moister and plump up you skin floral soft dewy look.

Burt’s Bees Renewal Firming Night Cream – $15.28 from Walmart

Featuring the same main ingredients, but dropping the SPF. This feels like I’m putting silk on my face, it’s so smooth and rich and instantly adds moister to my skin. After just a few days I noticed my skin looking soft and dewy when I woke up- a much needed improvement for my typical zombie-mom face!

So with a grand total of $56.53 I was able to get five products that will last me about four months bringing my monthly total down for $60 to about $14- win!
